Suitable for: Journalists intending to write for women’s magazines such as Cosmo, Glamour, Grazia, Marie Claire etc. The course will suit both first-time journalists or journalist wanting to change their current writing field.

Knowing your magazines inside and out, how glossy magazines differ, knowing the reader, decoding the table of contents, Writing different types of features (investigative features, trend pieces, Celebrities, Real Life, fashion.) What goes on behind the closed doors of women's magazines: the good, the bad and the really ugly
Week 2 Coming up with ideas
Where to get ideas from, How to know if an idea is a good one, turning one good idea into three,
Week 3 Pitching your idea to an Editor
How to pitch, what an Editor is looking for, how to make the right impression
Week 4 How to get the story
Researching and Interviewing – knowing what to look for, researching tools, what not to say in interviews, how to get all the information you need
Week 5 Writing and Editing
finding an angle, writing a hook, different writing techniques, how to give your feature the ‘wow’ factor, how to edit
Week 6 Insider tips
contacts, networking, going all the way...
Course includes: one lesson per week with assignments, feedback on work and full critique of a piece of work at the end of the course, plus help with pitching.
